Instantaneous water heaters provide protection against legionella

The Varmeco Fresh Water Technology uses instantaneous water heaters to prepare potable hot water and stands for energy efficiency and hygiene. Germs like Legionella (which can cause a dangerous lung disease) are inhibited from growing. This is ensured by the operating principle, which makes it unnecessary to store potable hot water in a hot water tank. With the so-called instantaneous water heater, hot water is available to you when you really need it.

With fresh water technology, heating water stored in a heating cylinder is used to heat fresh drinking water to the right temperature in an instantaneous water heater without touching it. The separation of heating and drinking water significantly reduces the risk of legionella, as the instantaneous water heater principle prevents hot drinking water from standing for long periods of time. In a domestic hot water storage tank, on the other hand, as was common in the past, the proliferation of legionella must be prevented by regularly heating the entire contents of the storage tank above 60 °C. This requires large amounts of energy. This requires large amounts of energy.

Heating on demand with the instantaneous water heater instead of storing domestic hot water

Hot water preparation in the instantaneous water heater also offers energy benefits for another reason, as the water is heated as required. When a hot water tap is opened, the integrated VarCon211 controller of the varmeco fresh water heater VARIO fresh-nova the volume flow and starts the speed-controlled charging pump. This pumps water from the heating cylinder through the Instantaneous water heater heat exchanger – specifically, only the amount necessary to cover the current hot water demand.

Instantaneous water heater with adaptive control

For maximum convenience and high efficiency, the hot water temperature can be adjusted to demand via 6 switching points per weekday. Information about the fresh water heating is continuously processed in the neural network (a process from the field of artificial intelligence) of the controller. This enables the controller to “learn” and adapt its behavior to the operating conditions. This not only promises you greater safety in the prevention of legionella, but also a high level of operating convenience.

Our fresh water technology is scalable: the appliance portfolio covers a tap capacity range from around 20 to 400 l/min. This means that the right instantaneous water heater can be found for every requirement.

VARIO fresh-nova - our classic product

This is what the VARIO fresh-nova instantaneous water heater product family offers you:

  • needs-based domestic hot water heating,
  • Circulation pump control for the prevention of legionella formation
  • Parameterizable switching function
  • Optional: Control of a single-circuit solar string according to temperature difference

Circulation mode prevents legionella bacteria from multiplying

Circulation mode ensures that domestic hot water is always available in the system and flows out of the tap as quickly as possible when required. At the same time, circulation ensures that the domestic hot water in the pipe network is kept at a constant temperature and moved regularly. This counteracts the proliferation of legionella bacteria in the pipe network. Circulation therefore increases hot water comfort and ensures the required hygiene.

The integrated circulation pump control recognizes demand, time and temperature-dependent operating modes. For example, with the „demand-dependent“ option, the circulation pump is started by the brief withdrawal of domestic hot water. Once the desired temperature has been reached in the circulation return pipe (and hygiene is therefore guaranteed), the pump is switched off again with the „temperature-dependent“ option. In this way, hot water convenience and energy saving can be combined in the instantaneous water heater. The operating modes for circulation can also be adapted to requirements via 6 switching points per weekday.

When a tankless water heater isn't enough: the VARIO fresh-nova cascade

The device series VARIO fresh-nova also includes cascadeable, electronically controlled fresh water heaters in 13 power sizes in the nominal output range of 58 to 684 l/min. They are also designed as instantaneous water heaters with stainless steel heat exchangers. Generously dimensioned counter-flow plate heat exchangers ensure low return temperatures and low pressure losses. The electronic controller, type VarCon211, also uses a learnable neural network in the cascade to automatically optimize the control according to operating conditions.
