The building at Bauerstrasse 3-5 in Dortmund offers barrier-free living in 50 units, each with 48 to 80 m2 of living space. The apartments are heated by underfloor heating in winter and optionally cooled in summer. Spar- und Bauverein Dortmund had the requirement to use a maximum of renewable energy - without an additional gas and chimney connection.

A solution with heat pumps and a 95 m2 solar thermal system was implemented. The heat pumps supply the room heating groups with weather-controlled mixer pre-controls via a distributor. In addition, the stratified storage tanks are charged for domestic hot water heating. These heating cylinders also serve as pendulum cylinders for the heat pump system. In parallel, the stratified storage tanks can also be charged via the solar thermal system. Fresh water technology was used to generate hot water, which, among other things, leads to low residence times of the water in the system and enables hygienic operation.
